Cholas – a mighty empire that crossed the boundaries of India

More needs to be written and read about this mighty empire, a rarity that crossed the boundaries of India to establish a presence in South and South East Asia. Vijayalaya is considered the King who laid the foundation of great growth of the Chola empire by capturing Thanjavur and challenging the hegemony of Pandyas and Pallavas in the mid 9th century AD. Again an empire not acknowledged in Indian history for its glory and greatness, much like the Gurjara Pratiharas, Rashtrakutas and Palas. Interestingly occurred around 850 AD, a time wrongly assumed in India as lacking cohesive, strong ruling dynasties.
