Ramagupta, an Indian emperor was defeated by the Shakas. The Shaka king demanded his wife Dhruvaswamini be handed over. A terrified Ramagupta was ready to comply. His younger brother Chandragupta would have none of it. Disguised he got into the Shaka King’s presence and killed him. His army defeated the Shakas. Chandragupta dethroned Ramagupta and became Emperor of India. He married Dhruvaswamini. A famous play by the noted Indian poet laureate Jaishankar Prasad is based on this.
