Alexander almost killed in the battle with Malli in India

Alexander’s army refused to cross the Beas river and mutinied. His General Coenus helped persuade him

to turn back from India. On the return path, Alexander was offered stiff resistance from a people called

Malli renown for their battle valour. The battles are said to have happened in Multan in undivided India.

There were a series of battles in one of which Alexander jumped almost alone into the Malli citadel and

a bowman fired an arrow into his chest piercing him and rendering him almost unconscious. A major

surgery had to be performed to remove the arrow head and a rumour spread that Alexander died.

However he recovered.
